Automotive giants Arquus (France) and Daimler Truck (Germany) have announced a new strategic alliance to develop next-generation military trucks for the French Armed Forces.

In a joint statement, the companies said the cooperation will cover the design, production, commercialization, and after-sales support of the vehicles, with a main focus on modernizing the French Army’s logistical fleet.

Beyond operational matters, the partnership also aims to reduce technological dependence on the United States and reinforce the sovereignty of Europe’s defense industry.

Arquus, which manufactures about 90% of the wheeled vehicles used by the French Armed Forces, brings expertise in armor and the integration of advanced military technologies. All of the company’s production is carried out within French territory, contributing to national defense autonomy.

Daimler Truck, with a manufacturing unit located near the French border, will facilitate industrial cooperation logistics. “We want to make a decisive contribution to the defense capabilities of our two countries,” said a spokesperson for the German company, emphasizing the strategic nature of the collaboration.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time the two companies have worked together. In the past, the then Renault Trucks Defense (now Arquus) and Daimler jointly developed the P4 VIPAIR military SUV, widely used by the French Armed Forces.

The new line of military trucks is expected to strengthen both the French Army’s logistical infrastructure and the presence of both brands in the competitive European defense market.
